Source IX-B U-Boat Map Model README
===================================
This model loosely represents a Type IX-B U-Boat from WWII. Only
14 examples were built and was the most successful submarine type
overall with an average of 100,000 tones sunk per boat.
The model is compiled for HL2/Source based games and comes complete
with textures and an additional prop model of 3 torpedos on a stand.
The model is to scale and is 76.5 metres (3012 Hammer units) long with
a polycount of just under 9000 polys.
Important info for mappers
===========================
Due to the way the Source engine handles water, any mode touching or
intersecting a water surface is drawn two or more times. This means
for a model of 8800 poly's, 26000+ polygons get drawn when it's in
water.

To get around this, the U-Boat has been split up into 7 seperate
sections. 1 for the hull which intersects the water surface, 2 for
parts underneath water and 4 for the details along the top of the
hull including the conning tower.
Splitting the model up means that only the hull is drawn multiple
times and also each model can have local LOD levels based around it's
own origin. This brings the drawn polycount down.
Included in this ZIP is a file, "entity_layout.jpg" which shows you
where to place the 7 prop_static entities relative to each other to
ensure that the U-Boat is assembled correctly.
